Ghanaian Army Recovers Fishermen After Maritime Robbery
According to an official military communication shared online, the mission was initiated at first light roughly 35 nautical miles offshore near Gomoa Nyanyano and Senya Beraku in the Central Region. The response followed reports that armed individuals had ambushed fishing crews and abandoned them at sea.
“The fishermen got stranded after they were attacked by robbers who disposed the entire fishermen of their outboard motors and personal belongings. Affected boats include Argentina 2, Argentina 3, Sea Lion, and Berema Nsukwa, among others,” the statement read.
The operation was spearheaded by the Ghana Navy, supported by air force units and aided by local fishermen familiar with the waters. Specialized maritime teams deployed high-speed interceptor craft in coordination with naval assets from both the Eastern and Western Naval Commands. As a result of the coordinated effort, 24 of the rescued fishermen were transported to Tema, while the remaining 47 were taken to the residential area of Senya Beraku.
